Dos - Don'ts
Up Feeds Guidelines Dos - Don'ts

Important Dos

  • Feed a credible potbellied pig feed.
  • Feed vegetables in small quantities to ad variety and vitamins, but limit leafy vegetables. This may cause looseness in your pig. If your potbellied pig has not shown any sensitivity to fruit, small treats of fresh fruit are welcome additions to the diet.
  • A constant supply of fresh, clean water at all times is essential. This is especially important in warm weather.
  • Giving a children's chewable multi-vitamin to your pig every day will give your pig the nutritional boost he/she needs.
  • Supplement your pet's diet with mineral supplements if you live in a selenium-poor area.

Important Don'ts

  • Feed chocolate. Chocolate can cause death in an otherwise healthy pig.
  • Feed candy, table scraps, or fatty snacks to your potbellied pig. This promotes bad habits and may lead to health problems.
  • Feed dog food, cat food, rabbit food or other animal chows. Your pig may behave as if he/she likes them, but that doesn't mean these feeds are appropriate for them. Potbellied pigs need a formulated feed specifically for their nutritional needs.
