As you can see, there are far more advantages than disadvantages. Owning a pig is similar to being a parent. Patience and love are required and it is not a responsibility to be taken lightly.

Advantages Disadvantages
  1. Long life span (1 2-20 years)
  2. Clean and odor-free
  3. Non-allergenic in most cases
  4. No fleas
  5. Very little shedding
  6. Quickly trained: litter box, tricks, harness, etc.
  7. No barking
  8. Non-destructive, unlike a puppy
  9. Low maintenance: annual vet visit, low feed consumption
  10. Communicative, affectionate, intelligent
  1. You may not be zoned to own a pig
  2. You may not have a vet available who knows how to treat potbellied pigs
  3. Pigs can become spoiled and manipulative
  4. Pigs require a commitment of time and energy from their owners
